Workouts

Today I did:

I love Richard Simmons! I think his workouts are so much fun, he almost always has good music and a diverse group of exercisers. This workout was fun, easy, and fit what I was looking for. I spend too much time sitting at my desk in my office and I thought this could be fun to do at my desk in between working, beading, online. A few years ago when I had injured my ankle I purchased all of the Chair Dancing workouts and they were fun, easy to do with an injury, and easy to do during the day without having to change into workout clothes, put shoes on, or go down to the basement to exercise in our fitness room. I was also able to convince my mom to do some of them with me and she seemed to enjoy them as well.
Sit Tight is more intense than Chair Dancing, it is non-stop, has both arm and leg movements, good vocal music, and is just plain fun. Richard is very encouraging and there are people in wheelchairs and people of all shapes, sizes, and ages doing the workout. I'm so glad I nabbed this when Mary had it, I figured the DVD would soon be OOP (out of print) and hard to find and I see she no longer carries it, nor does Amazon. If you can find it and like these type of workouts, I highly recommend it! All of the sitting workouts are great for when you have an injury or aren't up to intense exercise - some movement is better than none! Although I wouldn't recommend it for seniors unless they are in pretty good shape - it really is non-stop dancey movements with little cueing. The Chair Dancing workouts are more suitable for seniors in my opinion.

I also did:

I liked this one, it is a step up in intensity from the Leslie Sansone walking workouts, has better music, is filmed outdoors which I love, and has three levels.

WOTD

Today I did:

And:

I only did Cardio 1. I've always liked Richard Simmons and really appreciate that he uses good vocal music. This workout was no exception. This workout was 20 minutes and had 4 songs. #1 was a remix of The Rolling Stones' Satisfaction, song #2 was a remix of Summer of '69, I did not recognize the third song at all, and song #4 was a remix of We Got the Beat. The moves were simple dancey aerobics, beginner level = grapevines, v-steps, cha chas, side steps while playing air guitar or swinging your arms, etc. It was fun. I won't be following his rotation as I get bored easily and like to do whatever strikes my fancy each day.

Workouts

After all the snow yesterday I am hurting from shoveling multiple times. My knee is still weird - feels off/out of alignment, but I am taking it easy and being careful when I walk or do anything. Despite being sore from shoveling the snow, today I did:

Entire practice completed along with bonus meditation.

Completed several sections using the matrix. This is one of my favorite yoga DVDs; visually stunning, I like the music, fun dance, relaxing meditations. I know many people have a hard time with the freeform dance segments, but if you can let yourself go, it is indeed liberating.
One of my favorite quotes from Shiva is on this DVD: "Those who dance are seen to be crazy by those who cannot hear the drums. Enjoy your crazy wisdom then!"

Update & Workouts

I have been recently diagnosed with a condition that unfortunately has no cure or medicine to treat it. I feel as if the rug has been pulled out from under me. At times over the past couple weeks I have felt relief, curious, sorry for myself, depressed, angry at doctors and my parents, sad, frustrated, and overwhelmed. Sometimes I feel like ignorance was bliss and perhaps not knowing would have been better, but other times I feel hope that maybe I'll be able to find some relief. Holistic doctors recommend Qi Gong and improving posture to unblock chi, so I’m sure you will see me posting a lot of Qi Gong, stretching, and Yoga workouts to see if they help. I will be seeing a specialist soon, so occupational therapy may also be another avenue I try.
I’ve been told a gluten-free diet may also help. I admit I do not know a lot about it other than to avoid wheat; common in bread, pasta, and faux soy meats. I am learning more and will try this route to see if it helps. My husband picked up some gluten-free bread this morning and we were shocked by the price - $6 for half a loaf. Why is it if a product has something removed from it, it costs more?? Anyway, so long pizza, pasta, fake meats – I know they weren’t healthy anyway, on the bright side, maybe this will help speed up weight loss efforts.

Workouts

Workouts completed last week were:

I am loving this new Leslie Walk workout. The music is so much better (some of the vocal songs are Neon Trees' Everybody Talks, Pink's Get the Party Started, Jennifer Lopez's Lets Get Loud), the moves are fun and more towards aerobics than just walking, but still low impact. The set is bright & colorful, the participants are a wide range of ethnicities and ages. I've been doing just a mile at a time. You can do each mile separately and there is a music only option, which I appreciate! I look forward to her new Walk to the Party Hits out in December.

This is newly purchased. I've always loved Classical Stretch - it makes you feel stretched out, warm, and overall good. I did a pain relief episode; #2 for hips and foot pain. While doing it I felt great (while modifying some of the plies to avoid knee pain), afterwards I felt some soreness and kept cracking from my hips, thighs, knees, ankles, and feet.

I love this DVD. I believe it is one of their best. While I enjoy Kundalini Yoga, I also greatly enjoy meditation and love that this has so many options. My favorites are the Wahay Guru meditation and the singing mantra. I also like the full body meditation and several others. I always do a combination but never the whole DVD at once. I like that you can pick and choose. I hope they do another DVD in this vein.

Some new workouts I purchased but have yet to do...

I only purchased Phase 1 of Body Revolution since I rarely do a program more than a month - I get bored easily and need mental stimulation along with my workouts.

Workouts

Last week I completed a walking workout every day from the following ...

I also ordered and received the following...

And have on order/should receive this week...

And I pre-ordered for October...

I really haven't felt like doing much other than walking. Yesterday we went hiking for a few miles in the woods and around a lake north of us.

Week in Review

I had a wonderful week! I am feeling so much stronger and firmer. I have been avoiding the scale and tape measure. I know it can be quite motivational to see that you lost something, but last time I lost weight (more than 10 pounds) it took 4 months to see any difference on the scale and that was so discouraging, so I am just focusing on making long-term lifestyle changes.

This past week I did not count calories, but completed all 6 of my daily JV Total Body Workouts and...

Strong Knees (5 times!)

Zumba Exhilarate

Classical Stretch (Season 4, episode 1 - Deep Muscular Stretch)

Classical Stretch (Season 5, episode 501 - Full Body Slenderizing)

Classical Stretch (Season 6, episode 609 - Shoulder & Stress Relief)

Yoga Dance Earth

Regarding Yoga Dance Earth, upon preview I did not like it and thought I would be selling it, but after doing it, I really enjoyed it and have ordered the other two in the series, Fire and Water! It felt great, combined yoga, African dance, & tai chi movements and was fun. The disc contains three 20 minute workouts that are done barefoot (love that!) and are low impact.

This next week I will be counting calories, staying in my range, and eating more fruits & veggies daily. I may take my measurements, but am not planning on stepping on the scale anytime soon. I can see & feel a difference in my body and that makes me happy!

I will be doing more Classical Stretch workouts in the upcoming weeks since I am contemplating getting the other 2 seasons that I do not already own - 7 & 8. Since they are so pricey I want to make sure that I still enjoy Classical Stretch and they will be worth it to me. I still find that Season 5 is by far my favorite and feels the best. I feel fortunate to have bought one of the last remaining new copies - it is out of print and sells for hundreds of dollars on Ebay, Amazon, and other venues. I had two additional copies and sold one full set, but still have one Tone & Stretch DVD in case anyone is interested in purchasing it.

Week in Review

This past week I did my daily JV workouts for 6 days and did Strong Knees for 3. I know I need to get cardio in, but I am so happy that I've been able to keep up with what I have been doing - I am noticing alot of firming going on!
Yesterday was my birthday and we ate out both Saturday & Sunday without counting calories.
One fitness related gift I received was Yoga Dance Earth and I am looking forward to trying it out this week.

I am looking forward to warmer weather so we can walk the 2.3 mile loop in our local park.
Last Sunday we did get out and walk a little at another park.

Week in Review

We've received some very sad news this week and my mind, focus, and emotions have been all over the place as we prepare to say goodbye to yet another loved one.
I followed my daily workout only 4 days, have done Strong Knees only twice, and have been doing Raviana's Meditation DVD to try to find some peace of mind.

Honestly I haven't been working, sleeping, or doing much of anything really. I'm attempting to catch up on sleep this weekend and will be back on track with calories & exercise.

Week in Review

Another successful week of working out 6 days! I am getting much stronger, firmer, and my husband said he can see I lost weight in my face & arms.
This past week I did daily JV workouts and...

Strong Knees (3 times)

Delicious Dance

Firm & Burn (first time doing; very easy/low impact, for seniors)

Cardio Praise (not my cup of tea, will be getting rid of)

and Zumba Exhilarate Mix (LOVE that this has no instruction/voice option so you can blast the music and dance your ass off, it is so much fun!)
